One guest in particular had an unerving experience one night, the details of which you can discover in the video clip below, taken from the feature length documentary, recently screened at The Phoenix Cinema, Leicester.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kLynKJVGK94?rel=0\" height=\"315\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It has always been thought that the ghost of one of the Inns former landlords, John Fothergill was haunting the premises, maybe due to the eerie self portrait that still hangs in the hotel. Fothergill was a charismatic character who bought the Inn in 1934. He was a successful author and\u00a0wrote books about his profession one of which featured the Three Swans, entitled, &#8216;My Three Inns&#8217; which also became the basis of a BBC play.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergill.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-195\" style=\"border: 5px solid black; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\" alt=\"Fothergill\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergill.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergill.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergill-112x150.jpg 112w, http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergill-224x300.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a>The Inns episodes of bad luck have always been associated with this painting being moved. Stories of injury to staff, fires breaking out or\u00a0the cellar becoming flooded have all\u00a0been attributed to times when the\u00a0painting was removed for redecoration or refurbishment and this superstition has caused the owners of the hotel to name one of it&#8217;s bars as\u00a0&#8216;Fothergill&#8217;s Bar&#8217; (see picture below) and\u00a0designated it\u00a0as the painting&#8217;s permanent home, just in case!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergills-bar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-198\" alt=\"Fothergills-bar\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergills-bar.jpg\" width=\"649\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergills-bar.jpg 649w, http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergills-bar-150x95.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergills-bar-400x254.jpg 400w, http:\/\/www.hauntedharborough.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Fothergills-bar-471x300.jpg 471w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 649px) 100vw, 649px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, in an investigation carried out in 1998 (as you can see in the DVD documentary) suggested that the strange goings on in the hotel were due to the\u00a0wandering spirit of a poor suicide victim, previously employed by the hotel.
