Welland House, as it was known, used to be a family home and was also used as the town library. It was
derelict for a while and was in danger of demolition until rescued by the re-siting of the Harborough
Building Society in 1961. The outside of the building is believed to be faced with stone from the towns original
church, now a ruin in Great Bowden.
Before the advent of computers, cleaning staff in the empty building late at night often heard the sound of a
lone typewriter in the upper offices. Adding substance to that tale, one emloyee was startled when the keys of
the typewriter next to her began to move! The machine then typed out a mysterious message...
Even though there was no paper in the machine at the time, staff managed to remove its ribbon and read the
message from there. Thankfully, they kept it for posterity so we were able to incorporate it into the dvd!
